This is me saying goodbye to my little sister Amanda. She and I are very close. It was so difficult saying goodbye to my family but I felt closer to them during that time on my mission than I ever felt before. It’s an amazing thing that the Lord does.
This is my District in the MTC (Missionary Training Center) in Brazil. We got to study together and learn from each other every day. They became my close friends.
This is a Christmas party in my first area named Pajuçara. I love Christmas in Brazil! From left to right: Merielly, Me, Bianca, Pandora, Sister Frietas (my first companion), João. Brazilians make incredible food!
This was taken from our porch in my third area named Jatiúca. An amazing area! When it rains in Brazil it pours. It was…..interesting and quite an adventure to walk through that. This amount of flooding would happen in a matter of minutes.
An amazing family in my third area Jatiúca. With so little by way of “things” they had everything. I love them. I was able to meet amazing people in Brazil.
“There is something special about coming home from a mission. For those of you who are thinking of serving or are about to, coming home is quite a unique experience. You have been gone for a year and a half or two years and it’s amazing because through that time period, you will realize just how much you love your family. Through their love and acceptance, you feel an increase in God’s love and you start to get a small glimpse of how He feels about you. When coming home, it’s a strange feeling yes, you’re used to the regimented schedule of the mission and now you can see your family. But, allow yourself to be excited because you know what? You have served the Lord the best you know how. Though it may not have been perfect, He knows you did your best and will make up the rest. You’ve been forgiven for your mistakes and have repented of the silly follies we all have and you return home to realize that your family and the gospel really are all that matter in this life. The feeling is one that is indescribable. You feel whole and complete and though things and people change while you’re gone, the gospel stays the same, the importance and truth of eternal families stays the same and God’s love stays the same. It is always perfect and whole and makes us whole when we accept it. I will always thank Him for allowing me to serve the people of Brazil. I learned what true love is. It comes from service to others and forgetting about ourselves. Remember that family, serving others, the Gospel and our Savior Jesus Christ are really all that matter. If you know that, you’re on the right track. Serve a mission and you WILL see God’s hand in your life and that of your family. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.”
